Special Operations Team – Hazardous Material and Technical Rescue

The Washington County Special Operations team provides emergency response to hazardous materials spills and technical rescue incidents (rope rescue, collapse rescue, trench rescue, swift water rescue, confined space rescue).  In addition to responding to technical rescue and hazardous materials incidents, the team also responds to all structure fire incidents within the county.

The station is staffed by volunteer, career, and part-time firefighters who have received extensive training is these highly specialized disciplines.  The station houses specialized apparatus that include a HazMat Unit, a Technical Rescue Squad, Rescue Boats, and other specialized vehicles and equipment.

The Special Operations Team responds to approximately 450 incidents per year.

LIBERAL LEAVE IS IN EFFECT FOR WASHINGTON COUNTY GOVERNMENT

Liberal leave is in effect for all non-essential personal on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, until noon. Essential personnel are expected to fulfill their duties as usual.

The starting time for today’s Board of County Commissioners meeting will be reevaluated at 9:00 am.

For those required to travel, exercise caution on the roadways. If driving is necessary, ensure your vehicle is completely cleared, drive at a reduced speed, practice caution, and avoid crowding or passing plows.
