Winners Announced for the Buy Local Selfie Challenge

Winner of the Buy Local Selfie Challenge

HAGERSTOWN, MD (September 6, 2019) – Washington County Department of Business Development, in partnership with the Washington County Food Council, announce the 2019 winners of the Buy Local Selfie Challenge.

Calvin, age 7 of Clear Spring, Maryland was the youth winner of the Buy Local Selfie Challenge. His photo appeared on July 29, 2019, where he was holding a two pound onion that was being used to make onion rings. Calvin was visiting the Flying Duck Lane Produce Stand on Route 40 near Clear Spring. Calvin won a $50 gift card to the movies.

Jon Hendrickson, age 80 of Hagerstown, Maryland was the adult winner of the Buy Local Selfie Challenge. His photo appeared on July 31, 2019 holding a container of Dill Cheese Curd from Deliteful Dairy in Williamsport. Jon won a $100 gift card for gas.

The Buy Local Challenge is an annual event promoted by the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission. This challenge encourages local consumers throughout the entire state of Maryland to eat at least one local product.
