Washington County Treasurer’s Office Adjusts Public Hours for Increased Efficiency

HAGERSTOWN, MD (July 7, 2023) – The Washington County Treasurer’s Office announces a change in public hours, effective Friday, July 21, 2023. The office will close to the public at 3:00 p.m. on Fridays while maintaining regular office hours for employees until 4:00 p.m. This modification is a result of a thorough analysis of foot traffic and the ongoing effort to enhance operational efficiency, allowing staff to effectively complete their daily tasks.

After conducting a two-week trial period, it was determined that staff members greatly benefited from the additional hour of uninterrupted work at the end of the work week. This dedicated time enabled them to focus on essential inbox taskings without the interruption of walk-ins and phone calls, resulting in improved productivity. Importantly, this adjustment did not result in any discernible loss of service to the public.

The decision to modify the public hours was made following careful consideration of the needs of both the staff and the public. By reallocating resources during the last hour of the workday, the Washington County Treasurer’s Office aims to create a more streamlined and efficient environment, ensuring that employees can fulfill their responsibilities promptly.

The Treasurer’s Office remains committed to providing excellent service to the residents of Washington County. The adjusted public hours will allow staff members to efficiently manage their workload, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of the office.
