Washington County Board of County Commissioners Convene as Board of Health

HAGERSTOWN, MD (July 16, 2019) – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners convened as the Board of Health at Tuesday’s meeting to deliver three awards. ThePersonal Responsibility Education Program and the Sexual Risk Avoidance Program were both awarded to Girls Inc. of Hagerstown. Earl Stoner, Deputy Health Officer from the Washington County Health Department said, “We are excited to continue our commitment toward improving the health of the adolescent population in Washington County through this partnership with Girls, Inc. Evidence-based prevention programs, such as these, are a core elements of improving positive decision-making and risk reduction among this population.”

The second award was for the Mobile Farmers Market, which operates under the direction of Edward Kilpatrick. Stoner said, “Through this innovative project, vulnerable residents throughout Washington County, will now have access to fresh, local produce. These residents currently have limited access to produce, making it difficult to maintain balanced diets, which in turn creates the potential for many health issues. Eliminating this barrier creates a new, exciting opportunity.”
