Washington County Transit Enhances Paratransit Services with Ecolane Scheduling Software

HAGERSTOWN, MD (April 30, 2025) – Washington County Transit (WCT) is proud to announce a transformative upgrade to its Paratransit services through a new partnership with Ecolane, a leading provider of transit technology solutions. This collaboration introduces cutting-edge demand-response scheduling software designed to increase accessibility and efficiency for riders—particularly the elderly and individuals with disabilities.

As part of WCT’s ongoing commitment to delivering safe, affordable, and reliable transportation, the Ecolane system brings real-time scheduling and vehicle tracking capabilities. The result: significantly reduced wait times, improved service reliability, and greater overall satisfaction for our Paratransit customers.

Complementary ADA Paratransit is a vital transportation service that ensures individuals with disabilities who are unable to use fixed-route buses have equal access to public transit. Required under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), this service provides door-to-door transportation within a ¾-mile radius of existing fixed routes. It plays a critical role in supporting independent living, access to medical care, employment, and community engagement for residents with mobility challenges. With the new scheduling technology, WCT will be better equipped to deliver dependable, timely rides that meet the unique needs of these riders.

The new scheduling system will also be implemented in WCT’s JOBS Program, a partnership with the Washington County Department of Social Services. This program provides crucial transportation assistance for individuals seeking employment, attending job training, or maintaining current employment. Integrating Ecolane’s software into the JOBS Program will enhance WCT’s ability to provide responsive and flexible service for participants, removing transportation barriers and helping more county residents enter and stay in the workforce.

“This partnership with Ecolane represents a major step forward in achieving our mission to enhance the mobility of our customers,” said Connor Shank, Communications & Outreach Manager at Washington County Transit. “By leveraging advanced technology, we can better serve those who rely on Paratransit services, making transportation more accessible and user-friendly for everyone in our community. This is more than a service upgrade—it’s a collaborative partnership to create better, more responsive transit solutions for the residents of Washington County.”

The Ecolane platform enables WCT to dynamically adjust routes and respond to last-minute trip requests, streamlining the booking process and ensuring that eligible riders can more easily access services when they need them. This technology not only improves operational efficiency but also empowers riders with increased freedom and flexibility.

Washington County Transit currently operates thirteen fixed-routes and offers specialized services through its Ride Assist Voucher Program, the ADA Complementary Paratransit Service, and the JOBS Program. The addition of demand-response scheduling reinforces WCT’s dedication to delivering high-quality transit solutions that meet the diverse needs of county residents.
