Washington County Division of Emergency Services Enhances Pediatric Emergency Care with HandTevy Pediatric Bags

HAGERSTOWN, MD (April 3, 2025) – Washington County Division of Emergency Services (DES), has taken a significant step forward in enhancing pediatric emergency care by acquiring HandTevy pediatric bags. Coupled with the HandTevy Mobile Application that DES has purchased for use by EMS field clinicians, these new pediatric bags were procured through funding from the Maryland Health Care Commission Trauma Services Equipment Grant, facilitated by Meritus.

The HandTevy pediatric bags are designed to streamline emergency pediatric care by utilizing a color-coded system corresponding to patient ages. This innovative approach ensures that age-appropriate medical equipment can be quickly and accurately identified, improving efficiency and reducing potential treatment delays in high-stress situations.

These bags will be standardized across every ambulance and all EMS supervisor vehicles in Washington County. This uniformity allows every clinician, regardless of which ambulance they are responding with, to easily locate pediatric equipment and provide critical care without hesitation.

By ensuring consistent access to standardized equipment, Washington County Division of Emergency Services is reinforcing patient safety, reducing the likelihood of medical errors, and optimizing emergency response times. The integration of the HandTevy Mobile Application with these pediatric bags further supports field clinicians in delivering precise, life-saving interventions.
