| WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (May 4, 2026) – Crown Stone Farm, Washington County’s 2025–2026 Farm of the Year, has been recognized as one of Maryland’s newest Century Farms, marking more than 100 years of continuous family farming. The farm was established in 1817, underscoring more than two centuries of agricultural heritage. With this designation, Crown Stone Farm is now considered the oldest known family dairy farm in Washington County. The recognition places Crown Stone Farm among a distinguished group of farms across the county. There are currently 11 other active Century Farms in Washington County, each representing generations of commitment to agriculture and the preservation of working farmland. Maryland’s Century Farm Program was established in 1994 and recognizes farms that have remained in the same family for at least a century while continuing to operate productively. For generations, farms like Crown Stone Farm have helped define Maryland agriculture. Their longevity speaks not only to tradition, but also to the ability to adapt and remain productive over time. Today, agriculture continues to be a leading industry in the state, supported in large part by family farms that contribute to local economies and help preserve farmland.The Maryland Department of Agriculture recognizes the important role these farms play and remains committed to supporting the agricultural community and ensuring a strong future for the state’s food and fiber industries.Crown Stone Farm’s recognition as a Century Farm is both a celebration of its history and a reflection of the enduring role of family farms in Washington County. |
