Community Legacy Grant Awarded for Historic Fort Ritchie Redevelopment

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (January 16, 2026) – The Washington County Department of Planning and Zoning is pleased to share that Cascade Properties LLC has been named the recipient of a $300,000 Community Legacy Grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to support the rehabilitation of Building 603 at Historic Fort Ritchie.
The grant will fund Phase 1 of a two-phase project to rehabilitate the existing structure and convert it into a boutique hotel, further advancing redevelopment efforts at Historic Fort Ritchie and supporting long-term economic revitalization in the Cascade community.
This award is part of a broader state program, which supports 226 projects across Maryland that align with local revitalization goals in historically disinvested communities.

Community Legacy Grant awards are designed to stimulate economic development and reinvestment by supporting projects that promote redevelopment, business growth, and community revitalization. Eligible activities include commercial rehabilitation, business expansion and retention, façade and streetscape improvements, and other initiatives that strengthen local economies.

The rehabilitation of Building 603 represents a significant step forward in the continued redevelopment of Historic Fort Ritchie, helping to preserve the site’s historic character while creating new opportunities for tourism, business activity, and job creation in Washington County.
