| WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (September 16, 2026) – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners is pleased to announce the appointment of David A. Mason, P.E., as the new Division Director of Environmental Management for Washington County. Mason brings more than two decades of experience with Washington County Government, along with extensive expertise in engineering, environmental management, and solid waste operations, to his new role. Mason began his career with Washington County Government in October 2004, joining the Engineering Department as a Civil Engineer. In 2007, he transitioned to the Department of Water Quality, where he served as the Environmental Engineer. | ![]() |
| In 2014, Mason became Deputy Director of Environmental Management within the Department of Solid Waste, a position in which he has continued to develop his expertise in environmental programs and county operations. Throughout his tenure with Washington County, Mason has progressed through increasingly responsible roles, gaining a broad understanding of the County’s engineering, environmental, and solid waste operations. His experience working across multiple departments has provided him with a comprehensive perspective on the County’s environmental programs and the importance of responsible resource management. Prior to joining Washington County Government, Mason worked for two consulting engineering firms as a Structural and Transportation Engineer. He began his engineering career after moving to Washington County in 1996 from Southwestern Pennsylvania. Mason graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in 1996 with a degree in Civil Engineering Technology. He is a member of the Maryland Recycling Network and the County Engineers Association of Maryland, where he previously served as a member of the Board of Directors. In his new role as Division Director of Environmental Management, Mason will provide leadership and oversight for the County’s environmental management operations and initiatives. His extensive experience within Washington County Government and background in engineering, water quality, and solid waste management will support the continued advancement of the County’s environmental programs and services. Mason currently resides in Falling Waters, West Virginia, with his wife, Ann. They have two daughters and one grandson.Please join us in congratulating David A.
