HAGERSTOWN, MD (October 16, 2023) – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners is pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Cartrette to Director of Permits & Inspections commencing his role today, October 16, 2023. Greg brings a wealth of experience, having served in the US Army, worked as a government contractor, and held key roles in code enforcement and municipal management.

Greg is no stranger to Washington County, having lived in Hagerstown for nearly seven years. He later returned to his home state of South Carolina to assist in running his family’s construction business. Following his father’s passing, Greg transitioned to the field of code enforcement, working with multiple municipalities.

In his most recent role with the City of Lake City, SC, Greg served as the Code Enforcement Official, overseeing the operations of the building, zoning, and planning departments. Additionally, he was an integral part of the Lake City Fire Department, responding to emergency calls while on duty.

Greg’s dedication to community service extends to his personal life. He is joined by his wife, Leah, and their five-year-old son, Jeremiah, as they embark on this new chapter in Washington County.

“Greg’s deep ties to our region and extensive experience make him an ideal choice for the role of Director of Permits and Inspections,” said Michelle Gordon, County Administrator. “His commitment to our community and expertise will undoubtedly contribute to his success in this important position.”
