Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (A.R.F.F.)

The Hagerstown Regional Airport fire department was established in 1996 to provide Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting coverage for Part 139 Index A commercial service aircraft. Since then, the airport has transitioned to an Index B fire department providing crash rescue protection for Allegiant and Sun Air Express Express International commercial service flights. The fire department’s main objective is to provide crash rescue protection to all users of HGR and when available provide assistance to off-site aircraft and other emergencies.

Constructed in 2010, the fire station located next to the Showalter Road terminal consists of three apparatus bays, offices, full kitchen, day room and a training room that will seat up to 50 students. The airport has five full-time and nine part-time firefighters, five of which are on duty Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Between the hours of 3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and weekends, one firefighter is on staff during terminal operational hours. The Airport Crash Rescue Fleet consists of an E-One Titan Force, an Oshkosh T-3000 and a Mass Casualty Trailer.

All firefighters are trained to meet FAA Part 139 training requirements and must complete annual monthly training and an annual live burn to maintain FAA Part 139 certification. Airfield ARFF is supported by Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company and other companies in Washington and Franklin Counties.
