Hagerstown Regional Airport to Conduct Full-Scale Emergency Exercise Saturday, October 3, 2026

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (October 1, 2026) – Hagerstown Regional Airport (HGR) will conduct a full-scale simulated aircraft emergency exercise on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The exercise is part of the airport’s ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness and operational readiness.

The exercise will simulate an aircraft emergency and allow HGR, Washington County emergency response partners, and other participating agencies and organizations to test and strengthen emergency response procedures in a realistic training environment.Community volunteers will participate by portraying passengers and other individuals involved in the simulated incident. Their participation will allow responders to practice emergency operations from the initial response and medical management through triage, patient care, passenger accountability and tracking, and activities supporting the reunification process.

The exercise will involve Washington County emergency response partners and community organizations, including emergency communications, emergency management, emergency medical services, fire and rescue, law enforcement, and other supporting agencies. Participating agencies will have an opportunity to evaluate coordination, communication, and response procedures while identifying opportunities to further strengthen emergency operations.

Residents and members of the public should be aware that the emergency response activity taking place at Hagerstown Regional Airport on Saturday, October 3, 2026, is part of a planned emergency preparedness exercise and is not a real aircraft emergency. Motorists in the area may notice emergency vehicles, traffic control personnel, and exercise-related signage in the vicinity of the airport.

Hagerstown Regional Airport conducts a full-scale simulated emergency exercise every three years as part of its regulatory and emergency preparedness efforts. These exercises provide an important opportunity for airport personnel and emergency response partners to practice their roles and responsibilities, evaluate coordination, and strengthen preparedness for a potential emergency.

The airport thanks the community volunteers and participating agencies and organizations for supporting this important training effort and helping strengthen emergency preparedness in Washington County.
