Washington County Transfers Maugansville Sewer Flow to County Wastewater Treatment Plant

HAGERSTOWN, MD (September 26, 2025) – The Washington County Division of Environmental Management is pleased to announce that, following years of planning, the sewer flow from the Maugansville area has been successfully transferred from the City of Hagerstown’s wastewater treatment plant (WwTP) to the County’s wastewater treatment facility. This transfer was completed on August 4, 2025.

As a result of this transition, affected residents will now become full-service County customers, receiving their sewer bills directly from Washington County. These residents will no longer be charged an administrative fee from the City. Approximately 1,200 customers are included in this transfer.

The project, completed under a $12.9 million construction contract, represents a significant milestone in enhancing the efficiency, management, and delivery of wastewater services within the County.
