Washington County Division of Emergency Services Receives New Ambulances

HAGERSTOWN, MD (August 6, 2024) – The Washington County Division of Emergency Services is pleased to announce the addition of three new ambulances to its fleet. The new units, 2024 Ford F-550 (4-wheel drive) Horton ambulances, represent a significant upgrade in both functionality and safety for our emergency response capabilities. The new units will serve throughout the County and can be used as reserve ambulances by the Volunteer Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Corporations when needed.

New Features and Enhancements:

  • Enhanced Design: The ambulances feature a new county apparatus color scheme with a distinctive red roof, white body, and striping that highlights the Division of Emergency Services patch and the Maryland state flag.
  • Advanced Equipment: The new reserve ambulance fleet will be outfitted with equipment that meets all consensus standards and criteria for the Maryland EMS Voluntary Ambulance Inspection, ensuring the highest level of readiness and compliance.

Funding and Support:

  • Funding: The acquisition of these ambulances was made possible through funding approved by the Board of County Commissioners Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for safety enhancements.

Deployment:

  • Stationing: These units will be strategically placed and will enhance the volunteer EMS Corporations, and the Division of Emergency Services ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies throughout Washington County.

“We are grateful for the support from the Board of County Commissioners and the CIP funding provided. These new ambulances will significantly enhance our ability to support our volunteer EMS companies and will help serve and protect the residents of Washington County,” said R. David Hays, Director of Emergency Services.
