Washington County Emergency Communications Specialist Assists in Successful Baby Delivery

HAGERSTOWN, MD (August 5, 2025) – Washington County’s 911 Communications Center is proud to recognize the remarkable efforts of Emergency Communications Specialist (ECS) Maggie Keller, who helped facilitate the successful delivery of a baby during a 911 call.

On Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 12:47 a.m., ECS Keller received a 911 call reporting a woman in active labor. Acting swiftly, she reassured the caller and dispatched Emergency Medical Services (EMS) while providing pre-arrival childbirth instructions in accordance with protocols established by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED). Under her calm and expert guidance, the baby was safely delivered before EMS arrived on scene. Her composed demeanor and decisive actions ensured a positive outcome during a high-stress situation.

To honor her exceptional service, ECS Keller was presented with a stork pin and certificate—symbols of recognition for her critical role in facilitating the delivery.

Washington County congratulates ECS Keller and extends its warmest wishes to the family on the arrival of their healthy baby.
