Washington County Burn Ban to Remain in Effect Due to Forecasted High Winds

Washington County, MD (March 21, 2025) – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners announces that after further consideration and with the forecasted wind conditions for today, the countywide burn ban will remain in effect. Initially set to be lifted at noon today, the ban will now remain in place and be reevaluated on Monday, March 24, 2025.

According to the National Weather Service, a strong cold front is moving across the region, bringing gusty northwest winds through Friday. Wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph are expected in most areas, with possible gusts reaching 55 mph in some locations. Higher elevations may experience gusts near 60 mph. These conditions increase the risk of fire spread, prompting officials to extend the burn ban for public safety.

All outdoor burning is prohibited. Prohibited activities include:

  • Campfires
  • Open fire pits
  • Burning of debris & brush
  • Agricultural burns

Residents are urged to comply with the burn ban and avoid any outdoor burning activities to prevent the risk of uncontrolled fires.

For further information or updates on the burn ban, please contact Washington County’s Public Relations and Marketing Department at 240-313-2380 or [email protected].
