Washington County Experienced Cybersecurity Incident

HAGERSTOWN, MD (November 25, 2022) – On November 24, 2022, Washington County Government experienced a cybersecurity incident resulting in disruption to certain computer systems, the County’s website, and certain County services. At this time, the disruption is affecting capabilities at the Emergency Communications Center (911) but does not prevent citizens from being able to report an emergency situation. We assure you that all critical public safety services are operational. Citizens seeking emergency support can still place a call to the 911 emergency telephone number and public safety personnel will be dispatched.
In response to the incident, Washington County quickly commenced an investigation, with the assistance of third-party subject matter specialists, to investigate the source of this disruption, confirm its impact on our systems, and restore full functionality to County services as soon as possible. The investigation is active and ongoing. County officials continue to work around the clock to restore all County services as soon as possible. We have complete confidence in the team we have assembled and will seek resolution as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue our investigation and the restoration process.
We continue to serve our residents and remain committed to ensuring prompt delivery of County services. As the investigation continues, we ask that you direct all questions to Washington County’s Public Relations and Marketing Director Danielle Weaver at 240-313-2384.
