Washington County Board of County Commissioners Lifts Burn Ban

Washington County, MD (April 4, 2025) – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners announces that the county-wide burn ban has been lifted effective immediately.

The ban, which was enacted due to dry conditions and an increased risk of wildfires, is no longer necessary following recent rainfall and improved environmental conditions. Residents may now resume open-air burning in compliance with local and state regulations.

The Board of County Commissioners thanks the public for their efforts in abiding by the burn ban, which played a crucial role in preventing wildfires and ensuring community safety.

Residents are reminded to follow these fire safety guidelines:

  • Always check local weather conditions before burning.
  • Never leave a fire unattended.
  • Keep a water source or fire extinguisher nearby.
  • Avoid burning on windy days.
  • Ensure fires are fully extinguished before leaving the area.

As conditions can change quickly, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and exercise caution when conducting open burns. Continued awareness and adherence to fire safety practices will help protect our community from potential fire hazards.
