CORRECTION: New Payment Processing Fees Effective July 1, 2025: 3.3% Credit Card Fee or $1.95 Flat Fee for E-Check Payments

HAGERSTOWN, MD (July 14, 2025) – The Washington County Department of Water Quality announces the implementation of a 3.3% credit card processing fee, effective July 1, 2025, for customers who choose to pay their water and/or sewer bills using a credit card. This fee is already stated on the water and sewer bills.

This processing fee is collected by the County’s payment processor and does not generate revenue for Washington County.

As an alternative, customers may choose to pay online using e-check, which will include a flat fee of $1.95. Customers can also pay with cash or money order to avoid fees. Payments can be made in person at the Department of Water Quality or the Washington County Treasurer’s Office.

Washington County appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation as this change takes effect.
