Board of County Commissioners Appoint Acting County Administrator

HAGERSTOWN, MD (June 6, 2023) – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners is proud to announce the appointment of Michelle Gordon, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), as the Acting County Administrator. This decision comes following the retirement of the previous County Administrator John Martirano, and the Board of County Commissioners is confident in Michelle’s abilities to lead the county during this transition period.

Michelle Gordon has been an integral part of the Washington County team for the past seven months, serving as the CFO and playing a crucial role in managing the county’s finances. Her extensive experience and deep understanding of the county’s operations make her an excellent candidate for the interim role.

In her role as CFO, Michelle has demonstrated exceptional financial acumen, implementing innovative strategies that have resulted in increased efficiency and improved financial stability for the county. Her strong leadership skills, combined with her dedication and commitment to public service, have earned her the respect and trust of her colleagues and the community.

As the Acting County Administrator, Michelle Gordon will oversee the day-to-day operations of the county, working closely with the Board of County Commissioners to ensure the delivery of essential services to the residents. She will provide steady leadership, maintain open lines of communication, and collaborate with county departments to address the needs and concerns of the community.

The Board of County Commissioners expresses their confidence in Michelle’s ability to fulfill this interim role with the utmost professionalism, integrity, and efficiency. Commissioner Randall Wagner states, “I wholeheartedly support the appointment of Michelle Gordon as the Acting County Administrator. The Board of County Commissioners will soon initiate the search for a permanent County Administrator. They will undertake a comprehensive selection process to identify a qualified candidate who will lead the county into the future.
