GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
This professional position in the Office of the State’s Attorney is responsible for the investigation, examination and preparation of digital evidence of all assigned felony and misdemeanor matters in the County’s jurisdiction. Supervision is received from the Deputy State’s Attorneys.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

- Review, shield, and tag digital media such as CD’s, DVD’s and flash drives.
- Download body worn camera videos, cruiser camera videos, video interviews, City of Hagerstown camera videos and private camera videos.
- Upload digital files into the Case Management System of the State’s Attorney’s Office.
- Maintain close liaison with the police agencies and other agencies.
- Assist in case preparation when needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the office methods, procedures and practices of the Court system; thorough knowledge of business English, spelling and office management; ability to plan, organize and prioritize work; good communication skills and ability to work well with others; advanced computer skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s degree in criminal justice or related field.
- Minimum four years of work experience in a criminal justice field that includes investigative work. NOTE: Additional years of related work experience may reduce the educational requirement, and additional related education may reduced the years of experience required.
- Experience with computers, digital evidence and technology.
- Knowledge of the rules of evidence and criminal and motor vehicle laws; knowledge of the laws of search and seizure and gathering and maintaining evidence.
- Ability to efficiently and effectively interpret police reports.
- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain appropriate confidentiality.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, walking, lifting, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid driver’s license and to maintain.
