Washington County Launches New Emergency Alert System: WashCoMD Alerts

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (June 18, 2025) – Washington County’s Office of Emergency Management is proud to announce the launch of WashCoMD Alerts, a new emergency notification system designed to keep residents informed and safe. Powered by Smart911, this upgraded platform replaces the County’s previous system, Everbridge, and offers faster, more reliable communications during emergencies.

WashCoMD Alerts delivers real-time notifications about critical events, including:

  • Infrastructure outage alerts
  • Tornado/Severe weather alerts
  • Major traffic alerts
  • Evacuation alerts
  • Major crime alerts
  • Missing person alerts and more

If you are a current user of the Everbridge system, your data will be transferred to the new system. However, IMPORTANT: All new contacts will require user confirmation in order to receive email alerts. Upon upload of your public data, you will receive an automated confirmation email with a link to verify that you own the account and wish to receive emails from Washington County.

Residents who are not currently enrolled can register to receive alerts by simply text “WashCoMD” to 226787 or visit https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=washcomd and follow the prompts. Registration is quick, easy, and FREE.

“We’re committed to keeping our community safe and informed,” said Alan Matheny, Director of Emergency Management and Communications. “WashCoMD Alerts gives us a more advanced, efficient way to reach residents quickly in emergency situations. This upgrade ensures timely and accurate information is always just a text away.”

Through integration with Smart911, users can also create a FREE Safety Profile that provides 9-1-1 and emergency responders with important personal details, including medical conditions, home addresses, emergency contacts, and more—ensuring help arrives with the information needed.

For additional information, please contact Washington County’s Public Relations and Marketing Department at 240-313-2380 or [email protected].
