WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (September 29, 2025) – The Washington County Division of Emergency Services (DES) is pleased to announce that the Volunteer Ambulance Inspection Program (VAIP) is currently underway. This program ensures that every ambulance and EMS first responder unit in the county meets the highest standards for patient care and safety.
Every two years, all ambulance transport units and EMS first responder vehicles undergo a thorough inspection. The process verifies that each unit carries the required equipment and medical supplies necessary for pre-hospital patient care. Oxygen delivery systems are recertified to guarantee accurate administration, and all equipment is checked to ensure it is present, functional, and not expired.
“While our first responders are diligent in maintaining their units and medical supplies year-round, the VAIP provides a formal validation of their ongoing commitment to excellence,” said R. David Hays, Director of Washington County Division of Emergency Services.
This year, over 60 emergency response units will be inspected throughout Washington County. Units that successfully pass the inspection receive a “Seal of Excellence” decal, which can be proudly displayed on the exterior of the vehicle as a symbol of quality and readiness.
The Volunteer Ambulance Inspection Program highlights the dedication of Washington County’s EMS teams and their unwavering focus on delivering safe, high-quality pre-hospital care to the community.
