WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (June 23, 2025) – As extreme summer temperatures continue, The Washington County Office of Emergency Management is reminding residents that Cooling Stations and Water Stations are available throughout the county to help the public stay safe and hydrated.
These locations are open to anyone needing a place to cool down, access restrooms, get a drink of water, or refill a water bottle.
🔷 Water Stations
Water stations are located indoors during business hours and outdoors after hours at the following locations:
- The Hope Center – 125 N. Prospect St.
- Horizon Goodwill Industries – 200 N. Prospect St.
- Potomac Community Services Homeless Outreach – 29 E. Washington St.
🔷 Cooling & Refreshing Stations
In addition to water stations, several facilities are open to the public as cooling and refreshing stations, including:
- All Drop-in Centers and Soup Kitchens listed on the Street Guide
- REACH Day Resource Center – Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- PCS Homeless Outreach – Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. & 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.
- Soul Haven/OCA – Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
- Horizon Goodwill YASC – Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
- The Hope Center / Rescue Mission – Open Daily
- Washington County Free Library locations – Open during branch hours.Visit www.washcolibrary.org for full hours and branch information.
Please note that the Washington County Free Library will be closed on July 4 and Labor Day.

The County urges residents to:
- Stay hydrated
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours
- Check in on elderly neighbors and those without access to air conditioning
- Do not leave children or pets in cars
