Mission

To plan, design, build, and maintain safe and efficient county infrastructure while preserving the environment.

Vision

To ensure that all land development, public infrastructure, and capital improvements are designed and built in accordance with County standards and accepted engineering and construction practices.

Engineering-Design

Design Engineers in the Division of Engineering plan and design infrastructure improvements, including road construction and widening projects, bridge repair and replacement projects, drainage and stormwater management solutions, and traffic signage and signal engineering.  Projects are developed for eventual posting for competitive bids for construction.  See Engineering’s ITB/RFP/RFQ list.

Engineering-Project Management

Project Managers in the Division of Engineering manage the construction of infrastructure improvement projects, including road construction and widening projects, bridge repair and replacement projects, drainage and stormwater management solution projects, and pavement maintenance for over 900 miles  of Washington County roads.

Engineering-Plan Review

Plan Review Engineers in the Division of Engineering support the Department of Planning & Zoning by reviewing subdivision and site plan submissions for grading, storm water management, and impacts to traffic and utilities.  They also support the Division of Permits & Inspections by providing plan review for grading, entrance and utility permits.  Floodplain management is also handled in this office.  See Floodplain Management Tab on this page.

Survey

Surveyors in the Division of Engineering perform survey work for County infrastructure improvement projects and to determine County right of way.

LIBERAL LEAVE IS IN EFFECT FOR WASHINGTON COUNTY GOVERNMENT

Liberal leave is in effect for all non-essential personal on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, until noon. Essential personnel are expected to fulfill their duties as usual.

The starting time for today’s Board of County Commissioners meeting will be reevaluated at 9:00 am.

For those required to travel, exercise caution on the roadways. If driving is necessary, ensure your vehicle is completely cleared, drive at a reduced speed, practice caution, and avoid crowding or passing plows.
