Board of County Commissioners Approve Funding for Maryland Nuisance Insect Fund

HAGERSTOWN, MD (May 17, 2019) – On May 7, 2019, the Board of County Commissioners approved funding in the amount of $36,000 for local support of the Maryland Nuisance Insect Fund.

The Maryland Nuisance Insect Fund was approved during the 2019 Legislative session and replaces the previous Black Fly Pilot Program. The new program requires 50% support of the local jurisdiction.

With the support of local funding from the Commissioners along with a funding match from the State of Maryland, the amount is expected to provide four treatments along the Washington County portion of the Potomac River. The treatments will begin after July 1, 2019.
