Washington County Department of Water Quality to Conduct Leak Detection in Sharpsburg Water System

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (September 4, 2026) – The Washington County Department of Water Quality is partnering with Fluid Conservation Technologies II, LLC (FCT) to conduct leak detection throughout the Sharpsburg Water System from Tuesday, September 8, 2026 through Friday, September 11, 2026.

As part of the project, FCT employees will conduct leak detection activities throughout the water distribution system to identify potential water loss and help improve the long-term reliability of the system.

During this work, residents may see FCT employees and vehicles working along streets, sidewalks, and rights-of-way, as well as near hydrants, valves, and other components of the water system. These activities are part of routine infrastructure assessment and are not expected to disrupt normal water service.

Identifying and addressing water system leaks is an important part of responsible water management. Early detection can help conserve water, reduce unnecessary water loss, and protect the long-term reliability and efficiency of the Sharpsburg Water System.

The Washington County Department of Water Quality appreciates the community’s cooperation and understanding while this work is underway.

Residents with questions about the project are encouraged to contact the Washington County Department of Water Quality at 240-313-2600.
