Marty Snook Park Playground Area to Close for New Inclusive Playground Project

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (August 5, 2026) – Washington County Parks & Recreation announces that the playground area near Pavilion 2 at Marty Snook Park will close beginning Monday, August 10, 2026, as construction begins on a new, fully accessible and inclusive playground.

The project will replace the park’s two existing play areas with a new play space designed to provide children of varying ages and abilities with opportunities for active, sensory, and imaginative play. The new playground will feature poured-in-place surfacing, providing a durable surface designed to improve safety and accessibility throughout the play area.

Planned improvements will include:

  • Age-appropriate modular play structures
  • Accessible swings
  • A hill climb area
  • Sensory boards
  • A shade structure
  • A combination climbing and spinning feature
  • Poured-in-place safety surfacing

The playground area near Pavilion 2 will remain closed for an extended period throughout construction. Visitors are asked to respect all posted signage and construction barriers and to avoid entering the closed area for their safety.

Washington County Parks & Recreation appreciates the public’s patience and understanding while this exciting improvement is completed. The new playground will provide a more inclusive and accessible space for children and families to enjoy for years to come.
