HAGERSTOWN, MD (November 21, 2025) – The Washington County Division of Public Works, announces that Black Rock Golf Course will be undertaking several improvement projects this winter to enhance course conditions, safety, and overall player experience.
Tree Removal
Over time, a number of trees have begun to impact turfgrass health by limiting essential sunlight and airflow. Several dead or diseased trees that pose safety concerns will also be removed. This work is important for protecting critical course infrastructure including cart paths, bunkers, irrigation heads, and transmission lines and will help ensure safe, high-quality playing conditions for years to come.
Bunker and Green Surround Improvements
Throughout the winter, selected bunkers will be rehabilitated or modified. Improvements will include upgraded drainage, new bunker sand, and adjustments to green surrounds and sizing to enhance playability, consistency, and course conditions.
Golf Training Center
Construction will begin this winter on a new golf training center and driving range. This major privately funded project represents a significant investment in the future of the facility and will support expanded programming, training opportunities, and recreational offerings for the community. We appreciate the community’s support in constructing this facility.
We appreciate your patience and continued support as we complete these projects to maintain a high-quality public golf course and enhance the amenities available to our community.
