| BOONSBORO, MD (November 4, 2025) – The Washington County Division of Emergency Services (DES) is pleased to announce that the Board of County Commissioners has approved the establishment of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transport operations at the Rohrersville Fire Station (Station 8), operated by the First Hose Company of Boonsboro.
The approval allows the First Hose Company to provide EMS transport services from its sub-station on MD Route 67, enhancing emergency medical coverage for residents in southern Washington County. The Division of Emergency Services will utilize two existing County employees to cross-staff the transport unit, ensuring efficient operations without adding additional personnel costs.
“Today’s approval represents a major step forward in expanding EMS service and improving response times for our residents in South County,” said R. David Hays, Director of the Division of Emergency Services. “This collaboration with our volunteer partners ensures that high-quality emergency medical care is available when and where it’s needed most.”
James L. Sprecher Jr., President of the Washington County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association (WCVFRA), added, “We are proud to support the First Hose Company in this new endeavor. Expanding EMS transport coverage strengthens the entire County’s emergency response network and reinforces the commitment of our volunteer community.”
Oley Griffith, Volunteer Services Coordinator for DES, also commented, “This is an exciting opportunity to work hand-in-hand with our volunteer partners. Having an additional EMS transport unit in South County will help save lives by ensuring timely medical response where it’s needed most.”
The First Hose Company of Boonsboro has already received all necessary approvals from the Washington County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association (WCVFRA) and is now prepared to implement EMS transport services. The addition of this unit will expand the number of daily EMS transport units available throughout the County, further strengthening emergency response capabilities.
