JOB TITLE: Cloud and Virtualization Support Engineer
GRADE: 16
DEPARTMENT: Information Systems Division – Information Technology

REPORTS TO: Director of Information Technology or Chief Technology Officer
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
The Cloud and Virtualization Support Engineer is responsible for advanced support, administration, and maintenance of Washington County’s cloud-based and virtual infrastructure. This includes Microsoft Azure, Microsoft lntune, and VMware platforms. The position ensures secure, efficient, and reliable operations of critical systems that support County services, providing high-level troubleshooting, deployment, and operational support for endpoint and server technologies.
This position requires a high level of professionalism and customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICALTASKS:

1. Manage Azure laaS and PaaS environments including virtual machines, networking, storage, and identity services.
2. Implement and maintain Azure security policies, cost management strategies, and hybrid integrations.
3. Provide operational support for Azure services across multiple departments.
4. Deploy and support endpoint management solutions using Microsoft lntune for Windows, iOS, and Android devices.
5. Configure compliance policies, device configuration profiles, application deployment, and conditional access.
6. Troubleshoot endpoint management issues and coordinate with end users and departments as needed.
7. Administer and maintain VMware vSphere environment including ESXi hosts and vCenter.
8. Monitor virtual infrastructure performance, perform routine maintenance, and apply updates and patches.
9. Support server provisioning, storage management, and virtual networking configurations.
10. Serve as Tier 2/Tier 3 escalation point for technical issues related to cloud, endpoint, and virtualization technologies.
11. Document and maintain accurate records, diagrams, and technical procedures related to supported systems.
12. Participate in IT projects, system upgrades, and new technology implementations.
13. Collaborate with security and networking teams to support continuity, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
14. Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Proficiency in managing Azure tenants and resources in a production environment.
2. Practical experience with lntune endpoint configuration and policy enforcement.
3. Strong working knowledge of VMware vSphere and associated technologies.
4. Excellent troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
5. Strong communication, documentation, and organizational abilities.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
2. Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience supporting cloud and virtualization platforms, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Work requires visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and operate network equipment. The worker may be subject to outside environmental conditions and must be able to access and work in equipment closets, data centers, and remote sites.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.
May be required to be on-call 24/7 in case of emergencies.
