Washington County Board of County Commissioners Adopts 2040 Comprehensive Plan

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (September 8, 2025) – The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) is pleased to announce the official adoption of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan—a long-range strategic document that will guide the County’s growth, development, and preservation efforts over the next 20 years.

The Comprehensive Plan serves as a blueprint for Washington County’s future, outlining a shared vision developed through years of research, community engagement, and collaboration with key stakeholders. It addresses critical areas including land use, housing, transportation, economic development, natural resources, infrastructure, and community services.

Citizens are encouraged to review the draft 2040 Comprehensive Plan, available on the Washington County Government website. To view the draft and learn more about the planning process, please visit: https://www.washco-md.net/planning-zoning/comp-plan-2040/.

The plan will become effective on October 1, 2025, and will be available for public viewing on the County’s website at www.washco-md.net.
