Division of Emergency Services Utilizes Backup 911 Center

HAGERSTOWN, MD (July 11, 2019) – The Washington County Division of Emergency Services utilized the Backup 911 Center today after a lightening strike knocked out power at the Emergency Communications Center located at 16232 Elliott Parkway, Williamsport, MD. This is the first time this facility has been activated in an unplanned emergency circumstance since its establishment in 2015. The Backup 911 Center is located at 100 W Washington Street, Hagerstown, MD.

As a testament to the outstanding work of the Division of Emergency Services, all emergency communication services were seamlessly transitioned between facilities with no interruption to service. County Administrator Rob Slocum said, “Staff did a fantastic job transitioning from the primary Emergency Communications Center to the Backup 911 Center with no interruption to service.”

President Cline visited the backup center this afternoon with County Administrator Rob Slocum and Director of Emergency Services Dave Hays.
