HAGERSTOWN, MD (March 15, 2019) – Norfolk Southern Railroad has informed the County that the second phase of crossing work will begin on or about Wednesday, March 20, 2019. Each crossing may be closed for up to five days to complete the rail replacement, weather permitting. Phase one of this project was completed on January 22, 2019 and January 23, 2019. During the second phase, Norfolk Southern will be installing new rail.

In order to perform the work, the following roads will be closed to thru traffic at the railroad crossing:

  • Shawley Drive Crossing
  • Maugansville Road
  • Village Mill Drive
  • Reiff Church Road Crossings

Exact locations of impacted roads and crossings can be found in the maps below.

Motorists will still be able to reach properties on either side of the crossing, but will not be able to drive across the tracks. Detour routes will be posted to direct traffic around the closure.

Motorists approaching the closure will encounter cones, barricades, detour signs, and other traffic control devices.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through while the closure is in effect, but will be able to respond to calls on either side of the railroad tracks.
