GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for maintenance repairs on treatment plants, pumping stations, buildings, and equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION/TYPICAL TASKS:

- Review, prioritize and direct the resources to complete facilities request (work orders).
- Review, direct, and manage the purchase of material and r equipment required to complete tasks.
- Recommend replacement or type of repair for equipment and/or facility.
- Supervise maintenance programs.
- Perform employee performance evaluations.
- Interview and recommend applicants for vacant positions.
- Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical, and electro-mechanical machinery and equipment.
- Rebuild pumps and other equipment.
- Responsible for keeping necessary records and working from pre- set maintenance schedules.
- Performs welding/fabrication, basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work, etc.
- Perform water and sewer equipment installations.
- Evaluate problems/makes repairs as necessary.
- Supervise work of mechanical maintenance staff.
- Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge and experience in corrective and preventative maintenance to include repair of equipment, buildings, and water and wastewater treatment type equipment.
- Knowledge of pump mechanics, electricity, carpentry, HVAC and hydraulics.
- Ability to read and interprets blueprints and specifications.
- Knowledge of safety standards.
- Ability to communicate and deal effectively with people.
- Must possess management and supervisory skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with county staff and the general public in both verbal and written forms.
- Ability to supervise the work of others.
- Ability to represent the Department of Water Quality (DWQ) in a professional manner.
- Ability to field design (improvise) a replacement system to maintain compliance with state and local codes and regulations.
- Ability to prepare project cost estimates.
- Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma
- Minimum 2 years of plumbing experience
- Minimum of five (5) years in a responsible management position
- Five (5) years minimum experience in a facilities/utility maintenance
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is sometimes heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions and oils. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to be on call 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
