HAGERSTOWN, MD (January 18, 2019) – Norfolk Southern Railroad has informed the County that crossing work will occur on January 22, 2019 and January 23, 2019. This is a two-step process, with closing the tracks to lay rail next to the existing rail as phase one. They will return in a few months to complete the second phase which will be installation of the new rail.

In order to perform the work, the following roads will be closed to thru traffic at the railroad crossing:

  • Shawley Drive Crossing: Tuesday, January 22, 2019 (7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
  • Maugansville Road, Village Mill Drive, Reiff Church Road Crossings: Wednesday, January 23, 2019 (7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)

Exact locations of impacted roads and crossings can be found in the maps below.

Motorists will still be able to reach properties on either side of the crossing, but will not be able to drive across the tracks. Detour routes will be posted to direct traffic around the closure.

Motorists approaching the closure will encounter cones, barricades, detour signs, and other traffic control devices.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through while the closure is in effect, but will be able to respond to calls on either side of the railroad tracks.
