| WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (August 6, 2026) – Washington County Government invites residents, community partners, and visitors to join the official dedication of the Washington County 250th Anniversary Time Capsule on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Marty Snook Park Pool Area, located at 17901 Halfway Boulevard, Hagerstown. This dedication marks a highlight of the County’s yearlong 250th Anniversary celebration. The time capsule will safeguard artifacts, photographs, letters, and memorabilia that embody the spirit, achievements, and history of Washington County in 2026. It will remain sealed until 2076, when it will be opened in conjunction with the nation’s 300th anniversary celebration. The public ceremony will honor this historic milestone by recognizing the people, organizations, and events that have shaped Washington County over the past 250 years, while preserving today’s narrative for future generations. The 250th Anniversary has provided an opportunity to reflect on our rich history and envision the future. The time capsule stands as a testament to our community’s legacy, offering future generations a window into the people, traditions, and accomplishments that define Washington County today. Washington County extends its sincere appreciation to Richard Ward, owner of The Richards-Wilbert Company, for donating the burial vault that will permanently house the 250th Anniversary Time Capsule. The County also thanks the Osborne family and Osborne Funeral Home for their assistance with coordinating the donation and logistics, helping make this lasting legacy possible. Residents are warmly encouraged to attend this meaningful event as the County concludes one of its signature 250th Anniversary initiatives. The ceremony will celebrate our shared history and ensure that a snapshot of life in Washington County is preserved for those who will call it home 50 years from now. |
