TRAFFIC ALERT: Road Closures Due to High Water

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD (May 15, 2025) – The Washington County Highway Department is advising motorists of several road closures throughout the county due to high water conditions following recent heavy rainfall.

As of Thursday, May 15, 2025, the following roads are closed due to high water:

  • Pecktonville Road
  • Cresspond Road
  • Wishard Road
  • Ernstville Road
  • Kemps Mill Road (from the Mill to Snug Harbor)
  • Dam 5 (from Gruber Road to Gruber Road)
  • Independence Road (from FOP Lodge to Route 40)
  • Harpers Ferry Road between Canal Road and Limekiln Road

County crews continue to monitor flood-prone areas and will reopen roads once it is safe to do so. In the meantime, motorists are urged to use caution and obey all traffic signs and barricades.

The following roads have been reopened as conditions have improved:

  • High Germany Road at the bridge
  • Cohill at Broadfording Road
  • Edgemont Road (between Frazier and Mong Road)

LIBERAL LEAVE IS IN EFFECT FOR WASHINGTON COUNTY GOVERNMENT

Liberal leave is in effect for all non-essential personal on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, until noon. Essential personnel are expected to fulfill their duties as usual.

The starting time for today’s Board of County Commissioners meeting will be reevaluated at 9:00 am.
