This person will work with the Weed Control Coordinator and other Field Weed Control Technicians in the application of herbicides for the Washington County Weed Control Program spray service. Supervision is received from the Coordinator and the Maryland Department of Agriculture-Weed Control Section.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION/TYPICAL TASKS:

Apply herbicides to control noxious and invasive plants on farms, right of ways and other properties, as assigned.
Assist with maintaining accurate inventory and safe storage of herbicides and other materials assigned to the program.
Keep daily records of applications of herbicides, hours worked, mileage and maintenance of equipment.
Perform general upkeep of vehicle and equipment (fuel, water, oil, etc.) and report any problems that require special repair.
Perform other related duties as requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Minimum age 18 years.
Accurate math and (English) reading comprehension skills including the ability to read and understand chemical use and warning labels and follow specified application instructions.
Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills including the ability to prepare necessary forms and reports, and to explain weed control regulations to others.
Ability to learn the safe use and maintenance of pumps, motors and spray equipment and to effectively apply these procedures.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid automobile operator’s license.
Available for varied working hours as needed.
Ability to move/travel over any terrain to access inspection and treatment sites, to move/carry heavy objects (chemical containers, spraying equipment, etc.), to work with and around chemical substances and to work outside for extended periods of time in various weather conditions.
SALARY
Grade 4 Step 5 @ $15.30 per hour.
This role has a Position Differential of $2.50 per hour.
The Grade 4 Step 5 @ $15.30 per hour plus the Position Differential of $2.50 per hour equals a total pay of$17.70 per hour.
