GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs responsible technical work overseeing and participating in the maintenance and repair of a municipal golf course. Direction is provided by the Golf Course Superintendent. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

- Meets with, advises and receives direction from the Golf Course Superintendent.
- Assigns various maintenance duties to staff.
- Mows greens, tees, fairways and rough.
- Maintains traps.
- Maintains and repairs irrigation system.
- Maintains all golf course and club house property.
- Maintains all maintenance equipment.
- Applies fertilizers and pesticides as directed.
- Trains new employees on operation and safety of maintenance equipment.
- Supervises construction of various golf course additions, such as tees and tees boxes, bunkers, and greens.
- Performs all related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the principles. methods, materials and practices used in golf course maintenance; general knowledge of turf diseases and the chemicals necessary to treat same; ability to analyze soil conditions and devise a formula to correct unhealthy conditions; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates; ability to prepare reports and maintain records; skill in the operation of golf course equipment; ability to train subordinates; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in agronomy, turf grass management, and five years’ experience in the technical care and maintenance of golf course grounds.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms’ length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of current (or the ability to obtain within 1 ½ years of hire) Maryland State Pesticide Applicators License, Maryland State Fertilizer Applicators License, Maryland State Soil Sediment and Control Certification.
