The Division of Public Works consists of five departments: Highways; Parks and Facilities Transit;Hagerstown Regional Airport; and Engineering and Construction, utilizing approximately one hundred and sixty employees and an administrative office with a staff of six, including the Director and Real Property Administrator. The mission of the division is to provide and maintain a safe, cost effective infrastructure and public transportation that enhances the quality of life in Washington County.
The Division of Public Works is responsible for:
- Design and inspection of County highway projects
- Construction Inspections: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, Grading, Stormwater Management,
- Maintenance of County owned highways
- Management of County owned construction projects
- Operation and maintenance of County owned buildings, grounds and parks
- Operation of the County's public transportation system
- Acquisition of required right of way for County projects
- Purchase, sale, and management of County owned property
