Dedicated on May 12, 2000, the
Washington County Rural Heritage Museum is located at the Washington County Agricultural
Education Center and is operated as part of the Buildings, Grounds & Parks Department.
Visitors to the museum can relive a previous era when Washington County was
primarily a farming community.
The museum contains more than
2,000 items, most of which are on loan from or have been donated by local residents.
Upon arrival, there is a short video to introduce visitors to the museum.
Exhibits include: a typical General Store (on
loan from the Washington County Historical Society); examples of Rural
Living, such as a farm kitchen, parlor, and a country church; and examples of Modes of Travel, such as an original Conestoga
wagon, sleighs and sleds. Other exhibits contain equipment and artifacts used by
local farmers, and displays on butchering and dairying. There is also a Gift Shop on
the premises.
