Revised Engineering Reviews Fees Effective August 15, 2005

The Engineering Department, with a Staff of 22, acts as the technical advisor to the Board of County Commissioners and to other public agencies which may require consultation on engineering matters.

MISSION:

  • To provide direction for orderly and cost effective development that supports the Washington County economy while assuring the maintenance and expansion of the infrastructure needed to serve it.

The Department accomplishes its goals through three main functions:

Frequently Asked Questions

Capital Improvement Projects

Capital Improvement Projects are planned, designed, and inspected by the Engineering Department. Buildings, roads, bridges, drainage facilities, parks, traffic signalization, and railroad crossings are various types of Capital Improvement Projects. The Engineering Department is also responsible for determining funding sources, local, state and federal; managing the expenditures; and performing final project closeout.

Review and Approval of Private Development

The Engineering Department reviews and approves the designs and performs limited construction inspections of private developments. This is accomplished by our review of the subdivision plats and site plans submitted to the County through the Planning Department. We also perform driveway and utility inspections within the County right-of-way typically associated with those developments.
