The Engineering Department, with a
Staff of 22, acts as the technical advisor to the Board of County Commissioners and
to other public agencies which may require consultation on engineering matters.
MISSION:
- To provide direction for orderly and cost effective development
that supports the Washington County economy while assuring the maintenance and expansion
of the infrastructure needed to serve it.
The Department accomplishes its goals through three main functions:

Capital Improvement Projects
Capital Improvement Projects are
planned, designed, and inspected by the Engineering Department. Buildings, roads, bridges,
drainage facilities, parks, traffic signalization, and railroad crossings are various
types of Capital Improvement Projects. The Engineering Department is also responsible for
determining funding sources, local, state and federal; managing the expenditures; and
performing final project closeout.
