Washington County Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Award

The Washington County Solid Waste Advisory Committee has announced the annual Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Award  for 2011 designed to honor individuals, businesses or groups that do the best job in recycling each year. The awards will be made in April, to coincide with Earth Day. 

Deadline for submission is March 15th, 2011. Submissions may be made by the group or individual that completed the activity or by another person on behalf of the group or individual that completed the activity.

Submissions will be evaluated based on several criteria listed below; applications should address each of the criteria which include:

• Does the accomplishment extend the life of the 40 West Landfill?
• Is the accomplishment an ongoing, sustainable accomplishment?
• Does the accomplishment enable the County’s Recycling Coordinator to obtain more reporting data for the MDE recycling rate and waste diversion reports?
• Is the accomplishment economically feasible for replication by other individuals,    groups, or businesses?
• Is the accomplishment thoroughly documented?

Forms are available online, at the Recycling Office on Earth Care Road, or by mail. Contact the office at 240-313-2796.  The forms contain space for details of the activity, and additional pages may be attached if needed.
