Sheriff’s Prescription Drug Turn-In Program The Washington County Sheriff’s Office would like citizens to know that there is a safe and correct way to dispose of unused, expired, or unwanted medications. There are many risks associated with storing prescription drugs, which are not part of a current drug therapy. Medications stored as leftovers from previous prescriptions lose their effectiveness over time. Having quantities of stored drugs in your home could lead to medication mistakes and accidental ingestion. Unauthorized access of stored medications may result in the drugs being stolen and abused. It is important to our environment that unused medications are disposed of properly. Placing them in household trash or flushing them down a toilet or drain puts our ground water at risk. Sheriff Douglas Mullendore encourages the community to bring their expired and unwanted prescription medications to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, located at 500 Western Maryland Parkway, Hagerstown, MD so that these drugs may be disposed of in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Medications are accepted 24 hours per day, every day of the year, with no appointment necessary. For more information please contact SGT Jim Holsinger, 240-313-2194. |
