Livability Code
The Washington County Livability Code was established to protect the public health, safety, and welfare in residential structures and premises by establishing minimum maintenance standards for equipment and facilities used or lighting, ventilation, heating and sanitation. Minimum fire safety standards have been established for residential structures and premises to include means of egress, fire protection systems and other fire safety equipment and devices.
The Code establishes the responsibilities of property owners, operators and tenants of residential structures and by providing administration, enforcement and penalties.
Although the Code provides responsibilities of the owner to ensure the structure and equipment is maintained in a safe and secure condition, the owner is not responsible for damages and/or conditions resulting from the occupant’s negligence and/or failure to maintain the structure in a clean and sanitary condition.
