Adoption of New Codes


On December 18, 2007 the Board of County Commissioners adopted the Washington County 2006 Building Codes with local amendments (local amendments may be down loaded from the department’s web site http://www.washco-md.net/permits/codes.shtm). These codes include the following:

These codes will be phased in according to the following schedule:                       

February 1, 2008 – All plans submitted to the office of Permits & Inspections must comply with the new codes. No field correction notices will be issued for violations of the 2006 codes.

March 1, 2008 – Full enforcement of all new codes will be in affect. Field correction notices will be issued for any violation of the 2006 codes.

In addition, as of March 1, 2008 all mechanical (HVAC) contractors must register with the Department of Permits & Inspections. Registration will require a valid Maryland State HVAC Master or Journeyman’s license and the payment of the following fees:

Registration will be for a period of two years and must be renewed at the end of that period.
