GIS Office - Web Mapping

Many Splat Types

The GIS Office now has web mapping available to all county employees through the use of a web browser.  No GIS software is needed, only your Internet Explorer.  Simple map exploration and look-up queries can be done.

An explanation of how it works:

Just click and your Internet Explorer will open and it will load. They contain various map layers for roads, parcels, zoning, growth areas and municipal boundaries, etc, depending on which application you open.  Different layers turn on only at an appropriate zoom level.

The panel on the left side has drop-down windows: Tasks, Results, Map Contents, Navigation and Overview.  (The Landuse does not have a Task window)  The down arrow opens the window; the double arrow opens the window in it's own frame.

The Tasks allow you to make various queries such as find an address, find a property by owner name, or find a road.

The Results window displays the results of the tasks (click the plus to open, click the check box to display a pin on the map, then right-click to show options).

The Map Contents window shows the layer list.  Click the plus to show the symbol.  The check-box turns it on or off.  Grayed out means you're zoomed in or out too far for that layer to be displayed.

The Navigation window allows you to move the map by clicking on compass directions.  The Overview window shows where you are in a wider context.

The tool bar has + and - magnifying glasses, a pan “hand” to move around, a world magnifier to zoom to the full extent, an Identify tool, a measuring tool, and a magnifying window.

The Identify tool will show information in the results window when you click it on the map for each layer that is on.  Right-click the results to remove them from the result window when finished.

Call Sarah (2278) or Bud (2277) if you have any questions about operation.
