The County Attorney is the chief legal officer for the County. The Office of the County Attorney provides legal advice and services to the Board of County Commissioners and County departments, agencies, boards and commissions, affiliated nonprofit agencies, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The responsibilities of the Office of the County Attorney include researching legal issues and providing opinions; engaging and monitoring outside counsel; preparing and presenting legislation; negotiating and preparing agreements and other documents for the County; drafting resolutions and ordinances; acquiring and conveying title to real and personal property; representing the County in court and before various administrative bodies, and collecting various County fees and charges.
