Washington County Citizen Corps

The Washington County Citizen Corps Committee was established to provide a well-designed program to meet the goals, objectives and challenges set by the Department of Homeland Security in conjunction with meeting the requirements of the Citizen Corps of Maryland objectives.  The Washington County Citizen Corps Committee is a sub-committee of the Washington County Local Emergency Planning Committee.

There are four committees that make up the Washington County Citizen Corps.  These committees are: 1) The PR Committee – responsible for providing a media campaign on awareness of Citizen Corps and of their activities and events as well as provide public safety messages through Emergency Preparedness Tips Program, 2)Training Committee – responsible for such programs as the Business Outreach Training Seminars, 3) Citizen Emergency Preparedness Day – responsible for the annual CEPD event held in September of each year and for other special events such as Remembrance In The Park event and 4)Membership Committee – responsible for building the membership base of the Citizen Corps.
Quarterly meetings of the Core Membership of the Citizen Corps include progress reports and suggestions from the sub-committees to be considered in the overall yearly planning.
Programs such as the Washington County Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) program, Business Training Seminars, Citizens Emergency Preparedness Day, Out Reach Speakers, and representatives serving on community boards and committees representing Washington County Citizens Corps, the mission, goal and responsibilities are carried out.
